Mexican restaurant Žlutá pumpa (The yellow pump)

This Mexican restaurant can be found in a quiet part of Vinohrady, not far from Náměstí Míru. Its name (translated as The yellow pump) derives from water equipment that stands right in front of this stylish house. Interior is decorated with many coulourful paintings by Prague artists. If you’re not a person who loves and needs perfect order of all things, you will feel yourself at home. There’s peeling walls, carelessly painted chairs and tables that look so cozy you could almost say they look friendly. It’s nice to visit this restaurant in summer, when the tables are placed right on the street under grown agates. Waiters are always willing to help, they give you advice on what to order if you ask them.

What to order

There a a wide range of different Mexican and South American dishes to choose from. Tortillas and quesadillas are very popular. There can be chicken meat, hot chili peppers, cheese, spinach or whatever you desire (if they have it in stock) inside of those tortillas/quesadillas. They also offer lunch menu, which includes soup, appetizer and main course for almost unbelievably low price of 88 Kč. Another specialty of this restaurant is their offer of South American rum brands. Another good thing about Žlutá pumpa is that beside common beer brands they also have Hoegaarden (great Belgian beer).

Who likes to go there

You can mostly meet people around 30 or older. In summer it’s a favourite spot for people who like to enjoy a walk and get hungry after that, seeking for a nice colourful restaurant. It’s better to call in advance and make sure you’ll get a free table. On the other side, you can wait for your table at the bar, which doesn’t sound bad either. Opening hours are daily from 11.30 am to midnight or a bit longer.
