The currency used in the Czech Republic is the Czech crown (koruna, abbreviated Kč or internationally CZK). One crown consists of 100 hellers (heller = haléř). Heller coins have not been in use since the year 2008, however they are still used in merchandise prices. The total price is rounded off to the nearest crown value when paying.
Czech coins and banknotes
There are six coins: 1 Kč, 2 Kč, 5 Kč, 10 Kč, 20 or 50 Kč
and there are also 6 banknotes: 100 Kč, 200 Kč, 500 Kč, 1000 Kč, 2000 and 5000 Kč
If you’re coming to Prague, you should definitely exchange money. Czech crown is the official currency and it’s the best and sometimes the only currency that you can use when paying.
The Czech Republic is part of the EU, but the euro is not so widely accepted here. Some big stores, hotels or maybe restaurants accept payments in euros but their exchange rate may not be very friendly.
Currency exchange
The cheapest way usually is to exchange your money in the bank. Exchange offices still have addictional fees that make their better exchange rate fade.
