When visiting the capital, it’s worth to use public transportation. Travelling by car especially in a peak time can be very difficult and lengthy. With regard to very heavy traffic in Prague travelling by car is not recommended when visiting the city for the first time. Prague has a very good system of public transport lines which can be used for fast and cheap travelling through the city.
Speaking about time accuracy, metro is the most reliable way of travelling. There are three lines: A (green), B (yellow) and C (red). To switch lines you can use on of three transfer stations (Můstek, Muzeum and Florenc). In every vestibule a scheme can be found to ease traveler’s orientation.
Tickets must be marked when entering the metro. Your ticket must be already marked when you’re on the platform.
In the city center there is a dense network of tram lines (lines 1 to 26). Ticket can be marked in a tram.
Buses are used mainly in outskirts of the city.
Ticket for adults for 75 minutes (90 minutes at the weekends) cost 26,- CZK. During this time you can switch all means of transport. For travelling more frequently you can buy 24-hour ticket for 100,- CZK, 3-day ticket for 330,- CZK and 5-day for 500 CZK.
Tickets can be bought in the ticket vendors at metro stations, in tobacconists’, from bus drivers (with additional fee). You can buy it by text message by sending “DPT” to number 902 06.
